Monday August 25

Tonight Noah wanted to read to Memphis before bed time.  Memphis sat pretty well and listened to Noah.  Toward the end he got a little restless but good job to both boys as they did well!
Noah is really reading well!

This is how most of the reading went last night

By the end Memphis was doing other things but Noah just kept reading!

Friday August 22

In the last couple of days I have been organizing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at work.  I got over 30 of our staff members to commit!  And we raised over $200!
We had a lot of fun having ice water thrown on us (students and other staff members threw water on us).  If we do this again I have some changes I would do but other than that it was a complete success and we challenged the rest of the Johnston Community School District.

After this challenge I headed to Farrell's to work out and I was challenged again and I did it again with my Farrell's workout gang!  I am so done with this challenge.  But happy to have raised money and awareness for ALS!

Little Things

The little things of summer I miss...
  • Snuggling with the boys when they are up at 6am.
  • Not having a schedule to follow.
  • Not having to get ready each day, I would seriously get up and put on my workout clothes (I work out at 3:45)!
  • Playing with the boys (Noah and I just started to play Monopoly, he is pretty good and greedy)!
  • Taking selfies with Memphis.  (this little boy loves to take pictures)
He loves it!

With that being said I am happy to
  • Be back at school
  • Not having to watch Mickey Mouse, Paw Patrol, Bubble Guppies, Jake and the Neverland Pirates.
  • In a routine (yeah contradicts the above, but I enjoy a schedule most of the time)

August 18

Today Noah enters the 4th grade!  WOW!  He wasn't thrilled that summer was over but I do think he was ready to head back to school (kinda)!
When he got home I asked if he liked his teacher and he said that she seems very funny.  He has Ms. Williams and this is her first year at Altoona (Clay Elementary).  She is young as it is the start of her 4th year teaching.  I am happy that Noah seems to like his teacher and that he thinks she is funny.  He said that she told him that she is happy that he is in her class.
I hope Noah has a great 4th grade year as we love to watch him learn and mature in the process!
Noah, 9 years old, first day of 4th grade!

August 14

Today I start my 11th year in teaching and my 4th year at Johnston!  I honestly do love my job and am happy with my career choice.  I never thought I would be working with at-risk students but I do know that it was my calling.  I loved the classroom and teaching history everyday until I went to Winterset and was able to work more closely with at risk students.  Now being at Johnston, that is all I do and I find it amazing work to watch the kids grow from being a sophomore to a senior.

Here is to another year and 4000 more days until I can retire, 179 until summer break, and only 15 days until Labor Day Weekend!  But hey who is counting anyway!!!!!  LOL!
(just thought I would share some numbers)

August 7-9

Memphis and I decided to head to Creston for a few days.  He stayed a night with my Dad and then a night with Tyler.
Memphis was so excited to go to Creston as he was able to spend 3 days of playing non stop with Jaycee and Riggins!  Talk about excitement.
Thankfully dad and Tara watched all of the kids one morning so that Tyler, Tori and Emma and I could all go golfing!  It was nice to be out on the course.
It was another nice getaway to enjoy more of my family.  Wish Randy and Noah were with us but Randy had to work and Noah was with his mom.  None the less we had a great time!

Rigs coming down the slide!

Just playing!

Memphis getting his first haircut without crying or sitting on my lap.  It only took 3 years!  LOL!

My COOL DUDE!

July 31-August 3

July 31
Peggy, Memphis and I all head to mom's house to help her get ready for her big opening of Gracie's Hutch!  We loaded my car down with all of Peggy's sewing "stuff," so that she could help mom out with some embroidering on towels for the store.  We arrived with sweet corn and mom and Brent were thrilled to have Iowa Sweet Corn!
After we had dinner we headed over to the cabin (Gypsy's Paradise, if you need a getaway let me know)!  We went over so that we could Facetime with my Aunt so we could see the newest addition to our family!  Breann and Mike welcomed Eli James to the world that day and we were able to see him up close, along with everyone else!!!

August 1
We headed to Decorah, Iowa to do a little shopping.  That is a neat town!  We spent the day just walking the downtown area and then headed to Lansing, Iowa (this is where Gracie's Hutch is located).  In the meantime we stopped at a Creamry for some ice cream.  But before that mom got pulled over...lucky ass got out of the speeding ticket!  Just a warning this time to slow it down!

Once we got back to Ferryville we thought Memphis needed some time to RUN!  So the park was calling our name!
Memphis had a lot of fun

These two might have had more fun!

Peggy decided that she would go down the slide with Memphis but her poor knees don't bend like they used too and she got her knees stuck at the top of the slide.  You can see the nice progression of pictures.  Mom did try to help but all she really did was laugh.  Thankfully Peggy was laughing most of the time, the rest she was just trying to figure out how to get the hell out of this slide!  She figured it out eventually...after I took pictures of everyone up there!

August 2
Today was the day of working in the store to help mom get ready for her opening.  We accomplished quite a bit and Memphis so so amazing there.  It did help that he slept for a good 2 or more hours while we did most of the work.  But even then he would play out on the deck (which by the way I think I could hang out all day on that deck when the weather is nice and warm)!
Gracie's Hutch

Memphis and I out on the deck!  Love!

Chillin' at Grammy's house

August 3
This morning Memphis and GG thought that they needed to play.  She is pretty gentle with kids and had a nice game of tug of war!
After the game we packed up and headed out to go home.

Mom we wish you the best of luck with Gracie's Hutch!  If any of you are ever near Lansing, Iowa check it out!!!!

July 20

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOAH MATTHEW!

So hard to believe you are 9 years old.  You are growing up fast and are really starting to mature!  I love watching you grow.

From 3 to 9 you still look like your daddy!

July 19

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEMPHIS DEAN PALMER!

From peanut to a 3 year old!

Today we did celebrate his birthday again.  We took him to Chuck E. Cheese.  Peggy came with us and we had a blast with him.  Heck he didn't even need coins (of course we figure this out after we buy them) as he would not stay at a game longer than a few seconds.  He ran all over and had a good time.  It was fun to watch him play.

July 13

Today we celebrated the boys' birthdays.  We had a nice simple party at Dewey Park in Johnston.  It was nice and great place for the kids to play.
One would think that I would have thought to take pictures.  Well dummy me didn't get her camera out, instead it sat in the car and obviously I didn't take pictures with my phone!  UGH!  Seriously what kind of mom doesn't take pictures??  But each boy had a great birthday.  It is hard to believe that we now have a 3 and 9 year old!
But hey I did get pictures of the cakes I made!  LOL!

July 9

Today Noah went on his first Cub Scout camp out!  Randy also went with him.  It was a 3 day adventure.  When Noah got home he was so excited about the camp out and can't wait until next year.  I think it also brought back lots of memories for Randy as he also camped at Camp Mitigwa.

Getting ready to head out!
